Welcome Pastor Jon !!
The council is pleased to announce that Jon Gathje has agreed to become our Interim Pastor, starting June 8th.  Jon currently lives in Pasadena where he is completing his course work toward a PhD in Theology.  His emphasis is Christian Worship, particularly working with music and its ability to share the presence of God.  He will then begin work on his dissertation this coming fall.  Jon is leaving Burbank United Methodist Church as the youth pastor to join us at St. Paulís.  He has been serving there since August of 2012.
Jon was born in Wayne, Nebraska, a small town in rural Nebraska of 5,000 people, and grew up attending Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne.  After graduating, he attended the University of NE-Lincoln, and graduated in 2004 with a degree in Music Education, with Honors.  Following graduation, he taught music in Yutan, NE from 2004-2008.  He was called to Luther Seminary in 2008, where he graduated with his Master of Divinity in 2012.  He also completed his Masterís Degree in music from UNL in 2010.  Jon interned at Trinity Lutheran Church in Minneapolis from 2008 to 2010, and also served churches in Eastern Nebraska from 2004 to 2008 and as a Music Teacher at the International School of Music in Eden Prairie from 2008 to 2012.  While at Trinity Lutheran, Jon worked closely with youth and with multicultural groups in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood, particularly those from Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Somalia.  We welcome a strong music presence as Jon is also a member of the Los Angeles Master Chorale.
Jon is not married.  His parents, Rick and Sandra, live in Nebraska.  He also has his grandmother, grandfather, sister (Christina), brother-in-law (Kevin), two nephews (Koby-age 7 and Riley-age 2), and his beloved cat, Garrison.
